Get your DA on while the footy’s back!
I’m really interested to know which of today’s themed clues are unknown to today’s solvers. Clue numbers, answers and relevant information ensue. Please enter numbers you’ve never heard of.
1. 8A Jane Eyre.
2. 1D Katniss Everdeen (Hunger Games).
3. 2D Hermione Granger (Harry Potter).
4. 6D Elizabeth Bennet (Jane Austen – Pride And Prejudice…. I’m in love).
5. 7D Lisbeth Salander (The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo)
6. 15D Cressida (Shakespeare), although is she a heroine?
7. Clarice Starling (5D/17D, not a themed clue but the indicator), Silence Of The Lambs.
Never heard of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 so only Jane Eyre.
Have read none of the books. Glad I didn’t spend too much time on this one.
Heard of all. Have read all save Pride (seen films).
All but 7D. I’d heard of the book and film but didn’t know the heroine’s name. I tend to steer clear of the grim stuff these days. (I read and saw Silence of the Lambs when I was young and regretted it.)
Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice are favourites – I re-read them about once a decade.
I thought it was a great mix of old and new, and that the criticism in the other thread of the contemporary references was completely over the top!
Thanks all. It’s been very interesting and surprising for me.
Mulling over yesterday I wonder if I was too harsh. In particular I think I may have heard of 1D before.’
Am I right that she was the answer to another Friday DA in the last 2 or 3 years?
I don’t hang around here much, but I did recognise them all, even if I wasn’t sure where 6d and 15d were from. I came back here because various of the names felt like they had been together in a different crossword some time ago. Possibly I’m going batty.
Meanwhile, I still don’t have 3d.
David, first word is the definition, if that helps.
It was quite a hard one, in my opinion.
Mike, I think she might have been.
