Get your DA on for this lockdown week.
I don’t understand how you get “ shiver me timbers”, from “ rats among pirates”.
Love your cryptics.
FOI 23a, LOI 19a.
Liked the theme and clues 1a and 8d
A lot of talk about app issues this week.
While waiting for Fairfax to put up an Android app for their crosswords, I built a Website.
Now you can fill out puzzles from any source.
All you need is the image.
Try it out at artisanitynow.com
Did I mention that it is free of ads? :-)
And it’s a Website.
So you can access anywhere, anytime, not beholden to your app enabled device.
“Shiver me Timbers” is a mock oath used by pirates in much the same way “Rats” (and Drat) is by us. Which, while innocent sounding, are actually disguised forms of “God rot them”.
Over 40 years in the Maritime industry but have never heard the phrase spoken. Was familiar with it though, probably from old pirate movies. Dunno about the etymology but may have something to do with the sound and movement of the structure in old wooden ships.
