DA for the 15/16th of April, 2011

Probably an unthemed one considering last week’s extravaganza.

Talk about it here (although no spoilers until Monday on this particular thread).

Update: An easier example of DA good times this week by all accounts:

Didn’t have much a chance to have a go at this one.

  1. That has to be the least challenging DA I have done. First one I have ever finished in less than 1 hour. Not that I mind – it’s satisfying to get any DA out and maybe I’m getting better at them.

Really enjoyed 27A and 19D and like Rupert in the other thread I wondered how 19D got into the paper!

Needed to resort to Google to get the last word in 20D – it’s not in the Macquarie and I had never heard of it but pretty clear what to look for from the wordplay.

For me, 25D was not up to DA standards. I’d expect a clue like that in a beginners cryptic.

Now my only problem is what to do with the rest of my weekend!

  2. Agreed. By DA’s standards, this was straightforward (the LHS particularly so). Still struggled a bit with the NE corner.

  3. Nice, but not the same satisfaction in finishing as last week!

    Enjoyed 5A, 13A, 24A, 5D, 7D and 19D.

Can’t believe it took me so long to get 17A – just couldn’t get Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs out of my mind!

  4. I got 27A and 19D straightaway and thought we had a theme. Now that would have been interesting!
