A late entry which I just remembered over the weekend was the George Orwell crossword of not so long ago.
Perhaps a marketing opportunity exists - 'Best of DA', in time for Christmas. (well, maybe next Christmas)

The Do-Re-Mi crossword where so many things fitted into 15 letters (around 2 years ago?)
i.e. "Drop of Golden Sun"

The 'everything is an island' one from around 2000/2001

Enjoyed the Number 5 one recently too - worthy of a mention

Please, please, please can anyone remember how "No animals were harmed in the making of this crossword " was clued. It was pure genius and, I'm sure, hard compiling work. DA, do you have this clue hanging around?

Where do all the clues go . . .?

Wow, I'd love to get links to some of those. I never saw the Simpsons, AC/DC or the taboo one. Does anyone have blank copies or across-lite files that could be posted? Would we be breaching some copyright? DA, can you provide links to these puzzles? Perhaps they're on Cassowary Crossing, but I cant see them. The archives of the SMH seem to be off limits these days.

The ACDC one form last boxing day, and the Dylan one form a couple of years ago. The "No animals were harmed" crossword. The taboo one, I agree. The footnote was brilliant, but it didn't work at all well in the Across Lite online version, and I had to sneak a peak at the dead tree version to work out what was going on.

As for puzzles using all the letters, (and I know this is off topic in a DA forum),you can't go past Araucaria's alphabetical jigsaws in the Guardian, where there is at least one answer starting with each letter of the alphabet, and the clues are presented by that letter, with no numbers in the grid. So for example, a clue might read "W: Di Prince, back blushing now, with Arab state (5,6). You have to work out the answer to the clue (of course, as we all know, Diana prince was Wonder Woman's secret identity, and the wordplay confirms wonder woman). You then have to find where in the grid to put the answer. Obviously the X and Z clues get more bizarre each time he does it.

I remember one from quite a few years ago - The Taboo crossword, in which he broke every rule. It was asymmetrical, it had made up words, it had repeated words, it had bad clues. Totally bizarre. I liked the Simpsons one too.
